Product Review: Zesty Paws Allergy Immune Bites with EpiCor

The diagnosis of allergies in dogs is on the rise, which means more veterinary visits for pet owners.  Dogs with chronic allergies are more likely to suffer from repeat skin and ear infections, both of which can hinder a dog’s quality of life.

Allergy treatments often have side effects such as sedation, vomiting, diarrhea, and increased itching and scratching.  For these reasons, dog owners frequently turn to natural allergy remedies to holistically solve the problem.  Here, Zesty Paws Allergy Immune Bites with EpiCor will be reviewed.

Zesty Paws Allergy Chews

Allergies can occur when the immune system is overreactive or under-supported.  Therefore, targeted immune system support can be very beneficial for dogs that suffer environmental, seasonal, food, or skin allergies.

Zesty Paws Allergy Immune Bites contain colostrum, apple cider vinegar, and wild Alaskan salmon oil, all of which are common allergy fighting, natural ingredients.  Additional antioxidants control pollen and histamine response, while prebiotics and probiotics aid in digestion.  Additional ingredients include coconut glycerin, flaxseed meal, garbanzo flour, inulin (prebiotic), lamb meal, natural flavoring, palm fruit oil, powdered cellulose, sorbic acid, and sunflower lecithin.

An ingredient that is unique to the Allergy Immune blend is EpiCor, which is a proprietary ingredient that has been proven through clinical research to strengthen the immune system.  Epicor contains vitamins, nutrients, polyphenols, and immune-boosting metabolites.  In addition, EpiCor increases cell activity and increases sIgA levels, which are important antibodies for a healthy immune system.

Zesty Paws products are guaranteed to be free from grain, corn, and soy, as well as artificial flavorings or preservatives.  This product is made in the USA and is certified GMP (good manufacturing practice).

The Zesty Paws soft chews are heart-shaped and can be easily broken in half.  Dogs up to 25 lbs should receive one treat per day, while dogs 26 – 75 lbs should receive 2 soft chews per day.  For dogs over 75 lbs, 3 soft chews can be given daily.

Company Claims

The claims put forth by Zesty Paws are that the ingredients will strengthen and balance the immune system while controlling the histamine response.  Dogs should experience less itching and visibly healthier skin and coat.  Additionally, the pre- and probiotic ingredients and enzymes are intended to support digestion.

My Review of Zesty Paws Immune Allergy Bites with Epicor

Did it Work?

Zesty Paws are a mainstay after-dinner treat for Lucy, my 16 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.  We adopted Lucy 2 years ago after her owners were no longer able to care for her numerous medical problems, including severe allergies.

The first time we tried Zesty Paws we felt like we saw enormous improvements after 6 – 8 weeks, which is a common timeframe for nutritional supplements.  Unfortunately, I stopped using product after her symptoms improved.  I tried other brands and experienced positive results but have since gone back to Zesty Paws.  Although we are currently in the build-up phase we expect her allergy symptoms to be cleared in a few more weeks.  In the meantime, I have noticed significant hair regrowth in areas that she has chewed raw, as well as less reddening of her skin.

Value

One container of Zesty Paws contains 90 allergy chews.  For 25 lb Lucy, this equates to a 3-month supply.  At $26 per container, Zesty Paws Allergy Immune Bites are a great value, at less than $10 per month for allergy relief.

What I Like about Zesty Paws Allergy Immune Bites

I love the convenience of giving Lucy a treat after dinner.  She loves these soft chews and will follow me around the house if I accidentally forget to give her one.  We purchase the lamb flavor, which she seems to especially enjoy.

I also like that I can help Lucy with her allergies without sedating her.  She is not a good candidate for Benadryl or Apoquel because both cause severe sedation, and steroids are not a great option for senior dogs.  Lucy is on anti-seizure medicine and I also like that I don’t have to worry about these soft chews interfering with the efficacy of her pills.

Finally, I love the value.  At less than $0.30 per day, Zesty Paws Allergy Immune Bites are certainly the most cost-effective form of allergy relief we have tried.

What I Don’t Like about Zesty Paws Allergy Immune Bites

My only complaint about Zesty Paws Allergy Immune Bites is how long they take to be effective.  However, this complaint is not unique to the Zesty Paws brand itself.  Rather, any type of nutritional supplement will require a 6 – 8 week time frame to fully take effect in a dog’s system.

Bottom Line

Ultimately, I like Zesty Paws Allergy Immune Bites with EpiCor because it contains natural ingredients that are proven to strengthen a dog’s immune system and fight against allergies.  I appreciate that the products are made in the USA with good manufacturing products and are free from artificial ingredients.  We have had great success in the past with this brand, and have already noticed an improvement since reintroducing it to our dog, Lucy.  Zesty Paws soft chews are not only convenient, but also a great value.
