Review of Chew Proof Dog Beds

Adorable PuppyDoes your dog chew on everything including his dog bed? Welcome to the party! Our puppy does the same thing along with a lot of other peoples. Before we talk about chew proof dog beds, you might want to take a look at my article called “So Your Dog Chews Everything, Ways to Stop it“. But make sure to come back and read this. Some dogs are big chewers, they will chew on anything, including their bed. Besides being very annoying, it can get expensive buying new dog beds all the time. Believe it or not, chew proof dog beds are actually made for people just like us! They come in different styles to match just about any room.

Here we are going to go over some of our options. I hope you find one that works for your situation.

If you’re reading this, you probably love your dog like family, and want to give them the best of everything- food, toys, clothing (if you’re into that sort of thing), and comfort. If you could, you would buy your dog the biggest, fluffiest, most comfortable dog bed that money can buy.

But you can’t, because you have one of those dogs. You know the type I’m talking about. Your dog is a grade “A” chewer. A destroyer of anything soft, fluffy, and pliable, you have to be super careful about the types of bedding you purchase for your dog, because it could wind up in pieces all over your home. In this article, we are going to discuss different types of chew proof or chew resistant dog beds that are on the market.

The first two we are going to talk about are by the brand K9 Ballistics (the Original TUFF Bed) and the Orthopedic TUFF bed. All of their bedding is made with heavy duly, rip stop ballistic fabric and they are double stitched for extreme durability, which makes for excellent resistance for light to moderate chewers. Both beds come in a variety of colors and prints. Both beds have received a 4.5 out of 5 star rating out of over 100 reviews. The main difference in both of these beds in the padding- the Original TUFF bed is filled with special polyester fiber that is meant to resist clumping and flattening over time, meaning that it will not become misshapen due to frequent use. The Orthopedic TUFF Bed has a 5″ thick layer of foam, the bottom 3.5″ layer is supportive high density foam and the top layer is 1.5″ high density memory foam. It is meant for extreme support and comfort, and is best used for dogs that have arthritis or other mobility issues.

Kuranda Walnut PVC Chewproof Dog Bed

Now, what if you have an extreme chewer that even ballistic material is no match for? Then you are going to want to invest in the Kuranda Dog Bed. So far this bed seems to be the most indestructible of them all and would be best suited for extreme, persistent chewers. When you first look at it, you might not think it is very comfortable because it essentially looks like a cot. It is a poly resin frame with a super durable canvas stretched across it that come in a variety of sizes, from small to double extra-large. The reviews of the product show that it is a well-liked bed, with 4.5 out of 5 star out of almost 200 reviews. Many of the reviewers have stated that this is the only bed that their dog will not chew, and after months of use it has shown very little signs of wear. Kuranda also makes a fleece pad to go on top if you like, however we are talking about chew proof, and the pad certainly is not. Many reviewers have said however that it is not necessary, and that their dogs seem to like the bed sans extra padding.

All of these beds are on the pricier side, ranging anywhere from $60 for the smallest beds to over $200 for the largest size, however when you factor in how many dog beds you will go through in your destructive dog’s lifetime, it is a bargain. Depending on how long you have been searching for a chew proof dog bed, you may have already spent that much on beds for your dog without even realizing it! These beds are definitely an investment, however they should last the lifetime of your pet, and if you take good care of them, maybe even longer.
