Canine Tester: Lucy
This product was specifically recommended to be fed to Lucy, my 15 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix. While Lucy is not going to be bred, she does suffer from bad seasonal allergies. My Review of PROGENY BB Dog Breeding Supplement
PROGENY BB Dog Breeding Supplement is a fine powder that arrived in a convenient tub with a 1 oz measuring spoon for convenience. The powder is light brown in color and has a distinct mineral-like odor, reminiscent of iron or copper (two ingredients found in this product). It should be noted that this supplement is not intended for use with Bedlington Terriers, as they are known for their genetic intolerance to copper. The powder should be split between meals. Dogs should be given time to gradually adjust to the influx of nutrients and prebiotics by receiving ¼ of the recommended serving the first day and gradually increasing to the full serving over the course of 7 – 10 days. Serving size is based on weight:
5 – 10 lbs: up to ¼ scoop
10 – 20 lbs: up to ½ scoop
20 – 40 lbs: up to ¾ scoop
40 – 60 lbs: up to 1 scoop
60 – 80 lbs: up to 1 ½ scoop
80+ lbs: up to 2 scoops
Based on Lucy’s weight of 25 lbs, she received ¾ scoop of powder per day.
What I Liked about PROGENY BB Dog Breeding Supplement
I like that this product is easy to use and administer during meals. Unlike other powders I have used in the past, PROGENY BB Dog Breeding Supplement does not stick to the walls of the dog bowl and create a hard-to-clean mess. I liked that both of my dogs seemed to love the taste of the powder, as Lucy would lick her bowl completely clean and our other dog would check to make sure nothing was left behind.
I also liked that the product seemed to work quickly. Within days Lucy was showing fewer signs of allergies.
From the perspective of value, this product is a great deal. There are no fillers in this supplement, so consumers truly get what they pay for. For a 25 lb dog, a 60 oz tub of PROGENY BB Dog Breeding Supplement will last approximately 3 months.
What I Disliked about PROGENY BB Dog Breeding Supplement
Unfortunately, this product ultimately wasn’t for us. Lucy (who came to us only 18 months ago) has terrible dental problems, including an excessive build-up of plaque and tartar. Due to her age and a preexisting heart condition, she is not a good candidate for dental cleaning or tooth removal. We found that the powder was coating her teeth, which is not good for her condition. We regret not being able to use this product, as it was certainly helping with her allergies. Within a couple days of stopping supplementation, her allergy symptoms worsened.
Were the Claims Met?
While I am unable to say whether this product improved Lucy’s breeding health, it did improve her allergy symptoms.
Bottom Line
PROGENY BB Dog Breeding Supplement is a made-in-the-US nutrient supplement that is chock full of amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and prebiotics. The ingredients are intended to improve the health and survivability of litters and can also improve the condition of dogs suffering from allergies or arthritis.
This product is a great value and is easy to use. Due to a preexisting dental problem this supplement was not for us, but I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a healthy nutritional supplement for breeding or arthritis/allergy support.
