Dog Tents
Most dog owners absolutely love their dogs but are at a loss at where to have them stay the night when they are camping in a tent. Tents that are made for humans usually end up being too crowded to include a dog and when it’s raining and storming who wants a wet and muddy dog in the tent where you sleep and keep your clothes. We love our dogs and if we had some other solution for camping with them we would take it. Now we do.
Dog tents are the latest innovation in camping with your pets. Dog tents are similar to the tents designed for humans but they are at a reduced size. Like with human tents dog tents have metal poles that hold them up and have a zip up or otherwise securable front door. In the back side there is a whole so that you can place an anchor for a leash.
Think of a dog tent as a new kind of dog house. They are designed to be as weatherproof as a dog house while still being portable. To a certain extent dog tents are even more weatherproof as they have the doors on the front and your average dog house does not. When using a dog tent you can bring your dog camping with you in almost any weather without having to worry about it at night. It is even designed to be wind proof.
What should you look for when purchasing a dog tent? Well there are many different aspects to look for when purchasing a dog tent but the most important thing to look for is that the dog tent is designed for the size dog you have. Different tents will be designed to different sizes and while there is no problem purchasing a dog tent that is bigger than your dog, purchasing one that is too small will just end up looking ridiculous.
The second most important thing to look for is the material that the tent is made out of. The poles to your dog tent should be made from a sturdy material such as fiberglass and they should have a moderate amount of flexibility while remaining rigid. Besides the poles the tent itself should also be made out of a durable fabric. You don’t want dog claws going through the tent floor or scratching open the side. You also don’t want to risk the elements being able to get in and expose your dog.
One of the last things that you need to consider when looking for a dog tent is the floor of the tent. Having a floor that is easy to clean is important because when your pet spends the day outside at your camp site it is going to be dirty. You are going to need to be able to either detach the floor or partially detach the floor so that you can wash it down after a trip.
Next time you plan on going on a camping trip get your dog a dog tent so that it can stay under shelter just like yourself. Your dog will appreciate it and you will be able to sleep with a peaceful mind as you don’t have to worry about your dog. Dog tents can be used for other small animals such as miniature pigs and cats. They can also be used in the rear of your SUV, van, or station wagon to help protect the interior of your vehicle from damage caused by mud, scratching, and water.
